Publicity & Media Officer
The Standard Steam Locomotive Co. Ltd, trading as THE 'CLAN' PROJECT, wish to recruit a PUBLICITY & MEDIA OFFICER to further the aims of the company going forward.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a background in, or suitable experience of, the press and / or other public media.
The successful applicant will, primarily, be expected to liaise with the press, radio and television, both locally and nationally as required, as well as the specialist railway press and produce timely & accurate releases, articles and advertising copy to keep the progress of the project firmly in the public eye.
The Standard Steam Locomotive Company Limited (parent body of THE 'CLAN' PROJECT), is a Limited Company and Registered Charity and is in the process of constructing a brand new steam locomotive - Class 6 Pacific no: 72010 'HENGIST' - to a British Railways design, for projected use on Britain's main line railway; construction of the locomotive is currently underway in Sheffield.
The company therefore needs to gain as much media coverage as possible, both to encourage the general public to engage with the project and, to become members of the project in the medium & long term.
Further, we would hope to encourage commercial organisations to become involved with the project, both as suppliers and, possibly, as sponsors of the locomotive, alongside our current partners & sponsors and, to encourage young persons who may be interested in Engineering as a career.
The successful applicant would be expected to attend, as frequently as may be possible, the meetings of the Council of Management of the SSLC, which are normally held every third Sunday of the month, at the Westmead Hotel, Hopwood, near Junction 2 of the M42 motorway.
Applicants should note that this is a purely voluntary position and no remuneration is to be expected, other than verified expenses and, that the position is open to both members of THE 'CLAN' PROJECT and non-members, though the successful applicant would be expected, of necessity, to become a member before taking up his / her position.
Interested parties should, in the first instance contact Allan Jones (Chairman), giving a brief outline of relevant experience and the reasons why they would like to be considered for the position.
Further details of the project, its aims and current progress, may be gained by visiting the project's website www.theclanproject.org.
