Update 04/12/2014
04/12/2014
The Bogie Bolster casting has now been ordered thanks to a very kind donation from a member. Full update on that on Friday.

Other than that we are planning the frame erection work which is not an small job I can assure you. This will also help to organise the order of machining work for the un-machined components we have in stock.

The Bogie Bolster machining has now started. The photo above shows the machining of the flat surfaces. The half globe faces remain to be machined.

This will be followed by the machining of the tie bar brackets while the tie bar is being fabricated which will in turn be followed by the machining of the frame stretcher with brake cylinder bracket 'Bread Basket' casting.

Progress update December 2014

As 2014 comes to a close we have a LOT planned for 2015 and also some engineering updates to close 2014 with.

The photo above shows the two trailing keep feet (SL/DE/21645) which have now been machined apart from the four holes in the base and also the Bogie Bolsters (SL/DE/19621). The Bogie Bolsters just need the cross lubrication drillings completed.

The Frame cross stay (SL/DE/19607) which is of a tubular design has been ordered with the main tube available. We are waiting for the profiled ends. We already have the brackets, which have been machined, on stock. We expect the full assmbly fully bushed and pinned by the 9th Jan. This work is being carried out by S&E Engineering of Scunthorpe to a very high standard and we would like to thank them for their dedication and hard work.

The next engineering item will then be the machining of the Combined Frame Stretcher and Brake Cylinder Support 'Bread Basket' (SL/DE/21990) casting. This will be followed by the Front Firebox Support (SL.DE/19871) which will need fabricating and machining.

The Bread Basket will be followed by the Frame Stretcher for Bogie Pivot (SL/DE/19618).

The frame appeal is still open if you would like to donate to the project and we would like to thank everyone for their support during 2014. Here's to 2015!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
