Today we made a start cleaning up our smoke deflectors. These have been made for some time so we are removing the old red oxide and priming them in our new paint system.

Drilling and Reaming Frame Extensions
24/08/2021

Craig from CTL seal starts the slow process of fastening the frame extensions for the main frames. The holes need to be drilled out (undersize) using the main frame holes as a guide. The magnetic drill is clamped to the main frames but is attached to the overhead crane by a sling to help move it about (heavy!). Next Craig will use an adjustable reamer to finish the bolt holes so that it is around 2 thousands of an inch under the size of the bolt. Then the fitted bolt can be driven into the hole. The first stage is to fit the bolts that go through the main frames and frame extensions only. Then the front firebox support needs some slight fitting attention to get a good fit. Finally the fitted bolts that go through the main frames, frame extensions and firebox support can be installed.
