3D CAD Model Development

  Will has been developing the CAD model to ensure that the extension to the rear cylinder cover to support the front of the slidebars does not foul the Walschaerts valve gear. Will has created a motion model so we can see the positioning of the valve gear as the wheels rotate.
   
Leading and Trailing Coupled Wheel Pattern

  Members of HENGIST's engineering team visited William Cook Cast products today. Construction of the pattern for the leading and trailing coupled wheels pattern is well underway. The ribs to support the balance plate weights can be seen nearest the camera. Photo by Will Richardson.
   
Pony Truck Frame Keeps

  Today we have taken delivery of the frame keeps for the pony truck. This is the 2 wheel truck behind the coupled wheels. The photo shows the keeps on the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) at Helix Precision Machining Ltd in Hull
   
Bogie Frame Build Checks

  Today we have been checking the left hand side of the bogie frame. All of the axlebox guide bolts have been fitted. First job was to check that the Philidas nuts have been tightened to the correct torque specification. John is using torque wrench on the 1" axlebox guide nuts. Once this was complete, John when round with a 1.5 thou inch feeler gauge checking that all parts were sitting flush on the adjacent plate and bolt heads were pulled up tight.
   
Bogie Frame Painting

  Ashley has been at work today degreasing the left hand side of the bogie frame an applying the first coat of etch primer. All of the frame and axlebox guide bolts on the left hand side have been fitted and torqued up to the correct setting. We have 3 bolts to fit on the right hand side.
