Highslide JS Making sure that the inside faces of the frames are degreased and clean before installing the dragbox. This must be a metal to metal contact, i.e. the faces cannot be painted.
Highslide JS The dragbox is secured by bolts that go through the dragbox, the frame extensions and the hind beam gussets. We decided to use a drill jig to perform the drilling/reaming in 2 stages. First by drilling/reaming the gussets, secondly by drilling/reaming the dragbox and frame extensions. The gussets have been mounted on a machining bench and checked that the top surface is level in all planes. The drill jig is firmly bolted to the gussets; Mike and Keith are about to start drilling with our Asquith drill.
Highslide JS Drill jig bushes are used to locate the drill. First a 26.5mm hole is drilled. Then a 27mm reamer (as in the photo) is used to finish the hole.
Highslide JS With the gussets finished, it was time to move onto the frames. The drill jig has been bolted into position and temporary bolts fitted to all holes except the hole being drilled.
