Welland Steam and Country Rally, 24th-26th July 2015 was another successful event for the CLAN sales and publicity team.

The newly refurbished, freshly painted cab was transported from its usual position on the Great Central Railway at Quorn to Welland in Worcestershire.

Our President James Baldwin had arranged a great spot, quite centrally, at the event. It was on the Great Welland Railway right beside the buffer stop of Welland Halt. He prepared the way for Friday the first day of the show, setting up the display stand and banner etc.. So that it was all in place in time for the opening of the show and the tour by the dignitaries.

After a rather damp Friday, the weather improved and Saturday was a lovely sunny July day.

James & Judith Spenceley covered a busy day. Whilst James concentrated on the publicity, engaging passionately with the public and handing out a great quantity of information/membership leaflets, Judith had the sales area of the stand under control. This is where again the good position came into play. She drew in the captive crowds queueing passed the stall as they waited to ride on the Great Welland Railway.

Finally, Sunday began with Geoff Turner arriving with more HENGIST merchandise to replenish the depleted stock after the previous day’s activities and to assist Judith & James.

Once all was set up again, Geoff and James were invited to an interview on Welland Steam FM 87.9MHz the local radio station. This went out live on air as the Rally began, with James doing the general chat and Geoff adding the more technical information. Concluding with advertising the cab/stand, inviting all to visit us and the pushing the website address.

Unfortunately, just as this was completed, torrential rain had started and the scene was quickly turning to mud. Very soon, on safety grounds the show was closed and all further activities cancelled.

All in all a good time was had and importantly the CLAN once again had a presence!
