Ashley Shimwell has sponsored a set of tender doors - both sides - which we've had cut by a local company. Here you can see the left hand set, complete with the rubber sealing strips at the bottom. We've lots of small parts that need sponsoring, please get in touch if you can help.

Design - Bogie Components
05/03/2019

Our design team are busy working on the Computer Aided Design models for the front bogie. We have most of the British Railways drawings for the bogie components; a CAD model usually is a great help to potential suppliers. One problem area is the axle cannon boxes which were supplied by Timken, most of the other components were designed and built in BR workshops. The cannon box is a single steel casting comprising of 2 axle boxes separated by a tube. The axleboxes contain taper roller bearings for the axle to revolve in. The cannon boxes were originally lubricated by oil but this was changed to grease. Once we have drawn up all of the components in the cannon box, we will get our CAD models checked by Timken befoe proceeding to manufacture.

Spring Links

Our members continue to sponsor small parts and here are a set of spring links. The four longer ones (to the left of the drawing) are for the bogie. The remaining 12 are for the driving wheels. Although we are focussing on procuring bogie parts, it made sense to get the driving wheel links cut at the same time. The links will now need to slots cut into them for the spring cotters to fit in. This will require machining as the slots have a fine tolerance.
