The first major task of the project was to assemble the main frames and the frame extensions. In British Railways time, locomotive frames were assembled using cold rivets. This skill is very hard to find these days so the project decided to used fitted bolts. These bolts are a tight fit in the bolt hole and, we believe, offer a better securing solution to rivets.

A lot of work has gone on during the Autumn in ensuring that the hornguide welds are ground so that the transition from hornguide to frame is smooth. Here Jim and Bob are at work.
