Highslide JS 72001 Clan Cameron at Polmadie. This must have been taken later in the engine's life as it has electrification flashes and a speedometer drive on the rear driving wheel. You can also see the draught screens between the cab and the tender which were fitted in an attempt to reduce the draughts in the cab.
Highslide JS This and other Geoff Rixon colour images show the engines definitely in open store in Darlington Works Yard after arrival from store in Central Scotland, awaiting the management decision whether to overhaul for use on 2 hour Glasgow - Aberdeen expresses. The ending of steam south of Peterborough in Dec 63 released plenty of A4 and A2 Pacifics for this work, so the decision was then taken to commence scrapping the 5 Clans in Jan 64. Image showing bunker of many stored J94 saddle tanks confirms location as Darlington. From the Geoff Rixon collection, courtesy of John Drew.
Highslide JS 72001 tackles Beattock bank with a northbound freight. The photo was taken at Greskine, just over a third of the way up the bank.
Highslide JS This photo is from a set donated by Howard Turner. 72001 stands under the original roof at Carlisle Citadel station with a northbound train. Howard "spotted" 72001 under construction at Crewe Works on 28 October 1951.
